Five predictions for Louisville football’s newcomers in 2020
“Henry Bryant leads all newcomers in sacks”
-Jacob Lane
We talked with GG Robinson this past week on the Big Red Louie Podcast and talked about his career as a Cardinal, the 2019 season, and his expectations for this season. One thing that we asked him about w as being put in situations were he didn’t necessarily fit and how he had to make adjustments.
Once of those was pass-rushing on third down, where he often found himself and Jared Goldwire rushing after the quarterback together – doing so in spots that may not have been “perfect fits”
Now with GG gone and Jared Goldwire sliding into the nose tackle position, one player who will likely get snaps in pass rush situations is freshman Henry Bryant. The three-star defensive tackle is a bit undersized at 5’11, 275-pounds, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in athleticism, speed, and pure power.
Following enrolling in January of 2020, Bryant has had more time than others with the program allowing him to get more familiarity with the system, coaches, his teammates, and his role on the field – all of which should pay off.
His size is going to allow him to be used in unique blitz packages and pass rush situations and because of it, I think he winds up somewhere between four and six sacks which will lead all Louisville football newcomers on defense.
