Louisville basketball will play Kentucky in 2020.

I think we are all in agreement that the best case scenario was for Louisville basketball to get a chance to play Kentucky in 2020.

However, the tweet that just appeared on my screen on Tuesday afternoon, no hyperbole, may be the best thing to happen to me in 2020.

Never mind starting a new job, never mind moving into a new house, never mind this website and podcast taking off to new proportions- in part, thanks to Mack and a number of other great guests- never mind getting married… I’m just kidding.

Of course, in actuality, all of those things far exceed Mack’s post and, Taylor, if you’re reading, I love you.

However, in the scope of Louisville basketball and Louisville sports as a whole, during a pretty sucky year, this post by Mack is going to shake up the Battle for the Bluegrass for quite some time.

Let me summarize a bit:

  • Mack has heard your complaints
  • He says he is not scared
  • Mack states that he was trying to take the high road by simply asking John Calipari and Kentucky to meet Louisville half way and push back the rivalry game so that each team can receive a full home court advantage
  • Mack acknowledged that Calipari (“John”) put out a statement to the Courier-Journal last week stating that he plans to be in Louisville for their contracted game- But then things get interesting
  • Mack points out that Louisville already rescheduled once for Kentucky because the Wildcats felt like six days between a European trip and playing the Cardinals was too soon. Louisville happily obliged
  • Mack also points out that Kentucky scheduled another team to play on the date the Louisville game was originally scheduled for
  • Mack points out that the football teams moved the game back to next year and that Louisville would still have home field next season since the game was moved back
  • Mack reiterates that it is possible to do in basketball because the Cardinals already moved their home-and-home with Cincinnati back a year

I think most Louisville basketball fans expected the Cardinals and Wildcats to find a way to face off this year.

Almost no one expected Mack to go full scorched earth on Calipari, throwing fuel into the rivalry fire just as it was beginning to taper off.

I love it.
