Running Backs

This is one of Louisville’s positions of strength. It was very disappointing to see the two of the most talented players on the team put the ball on the deck multiple times.

Javian Hawkins was as good as ever. He was being patient and finding his seams to run. He finished his day with a nice 26 carries for 155 yards. It seemed he could rattle off six or seven almost whenever he wanted last night.

Hassan Hall showed his usual explosion. However, he put the ball on the floor twice. Hall is a threat to break one at any time. He fumbled on the first drive of the game. Then, he fumbled on a kickoff return where he landed on top of a Tech player and had the ball ripped out. We did not see them the rest of the way.

Just when you thought the fumbles were over, Hawkins’s knee just touched down in the red zone before the ball came loose. Then, on an ensuing drive, he fumbled for real and lost the ball as the Cardinals were driving. Not a recipe for success.

I am not worried about the running backs at this point, but coughing up the football like that is obviously not ideal. Hawkins is still one of the very best in the ACC and Hall is still a nice compliment and explosive playmaker. Hold on to the darn ball fellas.
