Louisville basketball: Most important players for the 2020-21 season
By Alan Thomas
Perhaps the most intriguing player on the roster never saw the floor last year is Jae’Lyn Withers, as he decided to redshirt prior to the season began. Whispers around the program are that not only can he contribute at the 4, but he could grab minutes at the 5 as well.
Chris Mack told Presley Meyer, Jacob Lane, and Alex Stengel that Withers “can defend the 5 well” on the Big Red Louie Podcast. I’m not sure what else I’d rather hear about a player that I already believe has a massive ceiling like Withers.
I’ll go ahead and say it. I’m most excited about Withers this year. He has added muscle, he has become a much more effective defender in the offseason, and I wouldn’t be the slightest bit surprised to find him in the starting lineup at some point in the season.
Though my expectations for Withers will remain a tad bit tempered until I have college footage of him to evaluate, I expect good things from Jae’Lyn. If Louisville has a shot to go deep this year, he’ll have to play well in a key supporting role.
