Louisville football has a lot to feel both good and bad about despite a 1-4 start to the season.

Louisville football dropped to 1-4 on the season after a 12-7 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Cardinals could not hold on against the number four team in the country despite a fantastic effort by (specifically) the defense.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 7-6 lead midway through the third quarter and appeared to have recovered an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff that would have completely turned the momentum in Louisville’s direction. However, it was flagged for an illegal block before the ball went 10 yards.

On the immediate drive following, Notre Dame then scored a touchdown on a nice athletic play by Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book. The Cardinals never got in striking distance on any drives until the game was over.

The Cardinals still have a lot to improve on. However, this competitive of a performance against a veteran Notre Dame team shows that the team has far from given up on the season despite an extremely disappointing 0-4 start in ACC play.

As many fans likely saw on Saturday afternoon, there were plenty of positives to take away from the tightly contested loss to the Irish. Many fans are still very (understandably) frustrated with the incompleteness of the team through five games.

With all of that being said, let’s review what the good, bad, and ugly of this game was for the Cardinals versus Notre Dame.
