Jacob Lane: Louisville football forces Jordan Travis into two interceptions

For all you parents out there, you’re probably familiar with the moment where you’re baby is growing into a toddler and they do something that surprises themselves, almost like they didn’t realize they could do it, and then from that point on they are obsessed with perfecting that. That’s the analogy I used when talking about Louisville’s defense this week on Noles Anonymous.

The 12 points that Louisville football’s defense held Notre Dame to was the thing they did that they weren’t aware they’d be able to do, thus surprising themselves. While this weekend, a multi-turnover game will be the “next step” as the defense continues to do grow and do things we weren’t quite sure they’d be able to do.

While Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis doesn’t throw the ball a ton (59 times in five games), he’s shown vulnerability in the turnover department, throwing three interceptions to match three touchdowns.

Against North Carolina he played one of his best games of the season statistically, connecting on multiple big passes, but he threw a couple of questionable passes into double-coverage that were caught but easily could’ve been intercepted.

FSU is going to try and establish a power running game with Travis early on, you can bet that, but when they are forced into throwing situations (i.e, third and long) I really believe that Louisville is going to be hunting for interceptions. If Louisville’s able to get the same type of pressure they were last week against Notre Dame that will automatically go a long way in helping the corners make plays and if top receiver Tamorrion Terry can’t go, things could turn in the Cardinal secondary’s way for the first time this season.

Couple that with the fact that last week corners Kei’Trel Clark and Chandler Jones each got their hands on multiple passes, nearly picking off their first passes of the season. With that type of momentum, I think one (if not both) get one this weekend.
