Kentucky basketball made us happy for the first time ever by confirming the rivalry will be played in 2020.

The Southeastern Conference announced on Friday a complete conference schedule for every SEC team. Of course, included in that conference is the Kentucky Wildcats. You may or may not know of them. You can find the complete release here.

Later in the day, Kentucky dropped their complete schedule for the 2020-2021 season and there is one particular game Louisville fans might be interested in.

The rumors were confirmed on Monday as the Cardinals are set to host Kentucky in the KFC Yum! Center on December 26. Amidst the pandemic, it was not completely clear whether things would fall into place for a non conference game with the Wildcats.

Louisville has been playing Kentucky at least once per season since 1983. The thought of breaking that streak now would feel so wrong for so many reasons.

Consider this your early holiday gift Cards fans. The much-anticipated matchup comes as Kentucky has won three in a row and seven of the last eight against the Cardinals.

While we sadly cannot guarantee a victory for the good guys, this is much better than the alternative feeling of coal in your stocking. “It Was a Year Without Kentucky-Louisville” is not the jingle any of us would want to hear around the holiday season.

Think of the ability to have this game as a small gift that has the chance to be a large one if the Cardinals can pull off the victory.

In all seriousness, this is going to be a difficult game and it is always one that anyone in the state of Kentucky (if not the entire country) gets up for. It is at least a top two rivalry in college basketball and should be recognized as such. The only possible case for better is North Carolina-Duke. But, even then, you could make the argument.

University of Louisville Athletics announced in a release recently that the men’s and women’s basketball teams would be allowed to have 3,000 fans in attendance at the KFC Yum! Center for the 2020-2021 basketball season.

Let’s cross our fingers that we can keep things this way with COVID in the background. Cards fans deserve the chance to get the Yum! rocking once again when Kentucky comes to town in late December.
