The Louisville Cardinals are looking to add yet another commitment to the fold as basketball’s early period for National Signing Day approaches.

The Louisville basketball program would like to add one more prospect into the 2021 recruiting class in the very near future. 2021 center Roosevelt Wheeler seems to be the guy the staff has locked in on.

Wheeler is listed at 6’10” 220 lbs on his 247 profile. I would not be shocked if he has put on even more weight than that. He has a decently filled out frame for a 6’10” rising senior. Wheeler is a Virginia-based big that attends John Marshall high school, a public school in Richmond.

He is ranked as the number 78 overall player in the class by 247. Wheeler is the 15th ranked center in his class.

Louisville currently has four commitments in their class in guards El Ellis and Bobby Pettiford as well as forwards Michael James and Eric Van Der Heijden.

Wheeler recently released a Top 5 via his Twitter account that included Louisville as his recruitment winds down.

Louisville has been collecting a ton of crystal ball picks in their favor for Wheeler recently including from national 247 experts (Brian Snow and Jerry Meyer) and Louisville experts (Jody Demling and Michael McCammon). In total, he is 100% projected to Louisville on the crystal ball just two days away from players being able to sign national letters of intent.

While Wheeler does not have a scouting report listed by 247, it is easy to see that his ability to run the floor as a big man is very impressive. Offensively, around the rim, Wheeler has the athletic ability to contort his body for creative ways to get the ball in the hoop.

While his game is far from polished on either side of the floor, Wheeler has the frame and athleticism to be molded into a fantastic player with some development in a college setting. Wheeler could be an imposing shot blocker and one of the most athletic bigs in the ACC before long.

This would be a massive get for Louisville basketball after they have only had two true centers sign since the 2017 class (Malik Williams and Aidan Igiehon). I am sure many Cards fans would love to have Wheeler right now as Williams works his way back from foot surgery.

As for when Louisville could expect a commitment? The 247 Sports team dropped a tidbit here about when that could be coming (subscription required). The window for the early signing period begins on November 11th and ends on November 18th. If a recruit does not sign in that time to a Division I program, they are required to wait and sign that national letter of intent until April 14th of 2021.

So, it can be assured Louisville is looking to wrap this recruitment up with Wheeler and seal the deal on one of the nation’s top big men.
