G Bobby Pettiford, South Granville High School

Bio

If Ellis is the scorer, Pettiford is the playmaker in this backcourt class. Pettiford has all the looks of a program leading point guard. The 6’1″ 175-pound high school senior is one of the best prospects in North Carolina for the 2021 class. He is currently ranked as the fifth player in the state by 247 Sports. Pettiford is ranked as the 93rd overall player in the 2021 class and the 14th ranked point guard.

Pettiford put up ridiculous numbers his junior season on a 29-1 South Granville squad. He averaged 21.8 points, 7.4 assists, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.9 steals per game. That’s what you like to call filling up the stat sheet.

Those numbers earned him first-team All-State in North Carolina.

What he can provide the team

Pettiford is exactly what you want in a floor general. He plays a confident and smart game. His most impressive asset is his athleticism. His bounce at just 6’1″ is incredible and his top speed is going to give defenders at the next level fits.

While Ellis has a scorers mentality while attacking the paint, Pettiford likes to manipulate his speed and slow things down for himself when driving to the paint. This allows him to decide whether to finish at the rim or kick the ball to a teammate.

His electric change of pace allows him to do a lot of different things as a ball handler. He can lull you to sleep and dart to the rim in an instant.

In transition, get your cameras out. Pettiford can be special here and will likely have a “one man army” attack in college as he goes from end-to-end.

Pettiford still feels like he is rated too low by the recruiting industry. He’s not an elite shooter at this point. But, if he adds that to his arsenal, there is no reason to believe he cannot be one of the best in the ACC.

He is a natural point guard with insane athleticism and the swag necessary for the position. His size limits him a tad, but there have been plenty of elite 6’1″ point guards to come through college basketball.

Pettiford, along with Ellis, will step in day one and be one of the best athletes on the team. His level of compete seems to be enormously high and he will push for a regular rotational role at the least in 2021.
