Jawaun Newton, Guard

Bio

Jawaun Newton is a 6’3″ 170-pound junior from El Paso, Texas. He, similarly to Kuhlman, got off to a slow start last season before he really turned it on at the end of the year.

Lickliter was giving Newton more minutes and he was taking advantage.

In all 12 games played under Lickliter, Newton averaged 8.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game all while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 48 percent from three.

Just a true junior coming into the 2020-21 season, Newton found himself getting hot at the right time at the end of his sophomore year.

How he can hurt Louisville

This is another shooter the Cards are going to need to concern themselves with.

If Newton maintains the same kind of efficiency he was having with their new head coach, Newton could be a problem for the Cardinals.

He will likely be drawing a match-up with Carlik Jones or David Johnson in this game. While you would have to give the nod to Jones or Johnson, Newton clearly seems like a player who is growing into himself coming into his junior season.

Newton is surely one to watch Wednesday afternoon and will likely be one of the starting guards for the Aces.
