The Louisville football program just beefed their program up with two transfers from the same program.

Louisville football hit the jackpot on Monday when a pair of teammates from Georgia Southern decided to transfer and take their talents to Louisville to finish out their eligibility.

It started off in the morning when hard-hitting safety/linebacker Kenderick Duncan.

Duncan was a big-time playmaker for the Eagles. In 25 career games for Georgia Southern, Duncan had 138 total tackles and six interceptions including 20 tackles and 2 picks in 2020.

The 6’3″ 225-pound Duncan is big, strong, and very athletic. Because of the shear amount of size on him, he may be a fit for the “Card” position within the defense which is a hybrid of safety and linebacker that plays closer to the line of scrimmage.

He will be competing with the likes of Marvin Dallas and Zay Peterson – who will both be entering their second year in the program – in 2021 at the “Card” position.

The stud defensive playmaker will have two more seasons of eligibility remaining with the Cardinals.

Later in the day, Georgia Southern’s star quarterback Shai Werts opted to team up with Duncan on their transfer destination to Louisville.

Werts passed for over 3,700 yards in his time with the Eagles while rushing for over 3,000 yards in four seasons and was one of the more dynamic players in the group of five conferences.

Georgia Southern runs a lot of option within their system so Werts had the opportunity to show off his legs a lot with over 650 carries in his career. It sounds like he will get to show off his legs even more with the Cardinals.

In an interview on Sunday, Werts announced his intentions to make a position switch at a power five school.

Luckily enough for Louisville, Werts chose them as he navigates to his new role at wide receiver. After quarterbacks Jawon Pass and Tee Webb left the program after the 2020 season, the quarterback room had thinned out some. Now, if Louisville needs an emergency behind Malik Cunningham or Evan Conley, Werts is more than capable of handling it with his dual threat ability.

Werts will have one more season of eligibility remaining to try and prove his worth as more of an athlete.

These are two potential impact players from day one for the Cardinals. I expect Duncan to come in immediately and have a starting position somewhere on the defense whether it be at “Card” or the strong safety role. More than likely, it will be at the “Card” which just feels like a picture perfect role for him.

Werts will get his chance to find a place in the Louisville receiving corps that is losing Tutu Atwell and Dez Fitzpatrick after a few marvelous years in the program. Werts is an excellent offensive chess piece that will likely end up at a skill position, but he could very well be an emergency quarterback option as well.

The two former Georgia Southern stars join Virginia Tech interior offensive line transfer Bryan Hudson as three players added from other programs this offseason.

It has been quite an impressive haul for Scott Satterfield and staff so far in the transfer portal. Wisely, the Cardinals left room for the influx of players looking to move on in the offseason. That development has led to three players who could contribute right away.

Duncan and Werts could become instant stars from day one in Louisville.
