With so much happening relating to the Louisville football coaching staff this offseason, itโ€™s fair to wonder if any more significant losses could be on the horizon. One that sticks out plainly is current defensive coordinator Bryan Brown.

In 2018, Louisville gave up over 44 points and 485 yards of offense per game under then defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder. They were one of the worst defenses in all of college football.

Most recently, in 2020, Louisville gave up 26 points and 369 yards per game under the direction of Bryan Brown.

In just two seasons, Brown has made the transition from one of the worst defenses in all of the nation to an at least respectable group.

Brown is primed for a head coaching role

On Thursday night, Brown received a promotion to his role at Louisville after he was reportedly a prime target of Tennesseeโ€™s search for a defensive coordinator.

This is likely an opportunity to groom Brown as a possible future head coach for Louisville or another program depending on how certain situations unfold. Still in his 30โ€™s, Louisville is trying to keep one of the top up-and-coming coaches in college football a secret as his unit only continues to get better.

Before Louisville, Brown was very impressive in his tenure at Appalachian State when he was defensive coordinator there as well. His defense was ranked sixth in scoring in just one season as the DC there. Heโ€™s an impressive, put together young coach who has been successful as the lead man of the defense. From many remarks, he is an outstanding human being on top of his coaching prowess.

Satterfield runs the Louisville offense and while he may have his hand in some of what happens on defense, Brown is the CEO on that side of the ball. Heโ€™s been nothing short of a rockstar in his time with the Cardinals and any head coaching job he could potentially earn with one more good season would be more than well deserved.

Louisville may only get one more year of Bryan Brown until he is the head mean elsewhere.
