Louisville football: Three best NFL fits for Javian Hawkins
New York Jets
Staying in the AFC East, the Jets are badly in need of a running back (and a whole lot of other things). They have new leadership with a whole lot of 49ers flavor to it. Former ‘Niners defensive coordinator is now running things as head coach for the Jets and his newest hire at offensive coordinator is none other than former 49ers passing game coordinator MIke LaFleur.
LaFleur, a Kyle Shanahan disciple, will likely attempt to carry over many of the concepts over from his time as an understudy. That means a wide zone run scheme will likely follow him to New York.
Running back is arguably the biggest need on the Jets outside of quarterback. The position is most definitely going to be addressed in free agency, the draft, or even both. Hawkins would be given a ton of opportunity in this offense to showcase his strengths. Don’t be surprised if Hawkins finds himself playing under the bright lights of New York City in 2021.
Wherever Hawkins lands, a team should be happy to snag him on day three. He may not have as much steam on social media because of an early opt out and no Senior Bowl. But, he’s one of the most dynamic home run hitters in this draft class. If he gets into a wide zone run scheme or spread offense that can utilize his strengths, he could be dangerous for years to come on Sundays.
