Louisville basketball‘s regular season finale will give the Cardinals the opportunity to control their own destiny heading into postseason play in the ACC and NCAA tournaments.

A win against Virginia on Saturday would cement a very good and, perhaps, surprising seeding in the ACC tournament.

As you can see from this well put together chart, the Cardinals would head into the ACC tournament with a double bye and the third overall seed with a victory over the Cavaliers Saturday in Louisville.

This is an opportunity for the Cardinals to pick up a huge NCAA tournament resume-building win while simultaneously applying a big chance to solidify a quality seeding position after a historically rough stretch of luck over the past month.

Amongst the many possibilities and scenarios in play, the odds are on two very different seeds being the most likely result for the Cardinals.

This data likely means that Louisville has to win on Saturday in order to obtain the coveted double bye. Any sort of loss would drop the team to just a single bye situation that would force them to play four straight days if they have hopes of heading to the ACC championship game.

Louisville has a great chance against Virginia

The Cavaliers have lost three of their last four games including three losses in a row before defeating Miami in their most recent matchup.

They’re still a similar team in how they would much prefer to beat you defensively giving up over 70 points just twice this entire season. They’re a slow tempo team that is deathly boring to watch visually, but it works wonders for Tony Bennett and his teams.

The Cardinals have dropped 10 of the past 11 matchups against Virginia. However, that one win came Feb. 8, 2020 under Louisville head coach Chris Mack’s lead.

An anticipated matchup with this much magnitude does not come along often. Louisville has a massive opportunity this weekend to turn their bad luck good once again.
