Malik Cunningham earns ACC quarterback of the week
By Alonzo Jones
Louisville’s dual threat quarterback, Malik Cunningham, has won the ACC quarterback of the week for his dynamic performance against Duke in front a nationally televised ESPN audience this past Thursday night. Louisville stomped out the Blue Devils 62-22 en route to a sixth win, which made the Cards officially bowl eligible.
The redshirt junior has the Cards sitting at 6-5 overall and primed for a bowl appearance at the end of the 2021 season. Against Duke Cunningham had his versatility on full display with an array of spectacular plays both through the air and on the ground.
Call him “Captain Cunningham”
He threw five touchdowns for 303 yards passing on just 18-25 attempts. His most scintillating play came when the quarterback “hot sauced” several tacklers in the open field and raced down the sideline in the second quarter for a 72 yard touchdown run, his second of the night on the ground during a 224 rushing yard performance. Malik Cunningham accounted for seven total touchdowns that certainly propelled the Cards to their blowout win against Duke.
With just one game remaining against Kentucky, Cunningham will have the chance to beat Kentucky. If you want to leave a legacy at Louisville, what better way to do it than to beat those pesky Wildcats from Lexington? The Cards have a chance to win and gain a much more prominent bowl bid by beating a top tier SEC East opponent. Malik will need to bring the same cranberry sauce Saturday night when the Cards suit up in primetime!
