Tonight the Cards go head to head with the Kentucky Wildcats in a battle for the Governor’s Cup. This is L1C4 territory, so Louisville hopes to turn the Cats into a post-Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday night!

Louisville (6-5) strolls into this rivalry game after blasting each of their previous two opponents, Duke and Syracuse. The Cards are bowl eligible and hoping to improve their final destination for postseason play. Malik Cunningham is fresh off of earning ACC quarterback of the week honors as well. The redshirt junior has been the catalyst of what has developed into an explosive offense.

The last time these two teams locked horns was in 2019 when Kentucky beat the Cards 45-13. The rivalry was put on pause last year amid the pandemic plagued season that turned the sports world upside down.

Will Levis and his electric receiver, Wan’dale Robinson, come into Cardinal Stadium hoping to set off some off some fireworks against what has become a stingy Louisville defense late this season. Louisville’s defense is ranked 7th nationally in rush yards allowed per play. Mark Stoops will surely have to allow Levis to push the ball down the field if the Cats expect to have a chance.

Cunningham will be the key in this contest for the Cardinal offense. His legs and arm have proven to be handy for Louisville the last several weeks. He needs to be able to run when the pocket breaks down to keep the Cardinals ahead of the chains. Also he will need to count on his receivers downfield, such Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, Tyler Harrell, Jordan Watkins, and tight end Marshon Ford.

The Kentucky Defense has had it’s moments this year. Josh Paschal is the leader of what, in recent years, has been a testy Wildcat defense. However, that has not been the case late in the year after watching bad performances Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Georgia.

Here’s my prediction for todays contest:

Final Score – Louisville 38 – Kentucky 34
