It has been a changing of the guard in recent days as Louisville football and basketball, among other sports, have witnessed new leadership in major areas throughout the University. The biggest change being that University President Neeli Bendapudi chose to exit Louisville for the same role at Penn State University. Lori Stewart Gonzalez was named as the interim president in her absence.
On Monday, deputy athletic director Josh Heird was appointed by Gonzalez to act as the interim athletic director in longtime athletic director Vince Tyra’s place. The decision comes on the heels of Tyra deciding to resign as athletic director early last week.
Heird has an extensive history working in Louisville athletics, including a period from 2007-2016 and again from 2019 until now. While Louisville searches for a new athletic director, who better to serve as interim than someone who is a familiar voice and face around the various sports programs? Heird should be able to keep the ship steady until Louisville is able to find a full time permanent AD.
