COVID turned the sports world upside down in 2020. Games were delayed, postponed, and some even cancelled. Well, this time of year seems eerily familiar to sports fans across the country with the amount of games that are being affected in a countless American sports leagues.

Monday it was announced that the annual basketball rivalry between Louisville and Kentucky, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, will be postponed due to COVID-related issues running rampant throughout the Louisville program. Currently the Cards have multiple positive tests among players and staff. All team activities have been indefinitely suspended and will remain situated atop the fireplace this Christmas until the COVID-related issues subside.

The Cardinals could probably use the rest considering they have dropped two of their past three games. Kentucky has continued playing games, but has also been affected by the resurgence of COVID as well. They will replace Louisville as an opponent with a game against Western Kentucky on Wednesday instead, who beat the Cardinals this past weekend in Bowling Green. Many schools have adopted this “patch and go” approach for opponents who find themselves unavailable to compete.

There has been no specific time table set for when the schools will decide to make up the game. However, you can bet that both fan bases would love to see another old-fashioned “bluegrass knuckler” between the Cards and Cats, one time for the one time! Let’s hope that university officials can find a way to settle on a time that’s feasible for both programs to give salivating Kentuckians some good ball to please their proverbial palates.
