Teddy Bridgewater suffers head injury, but “ok”
By Alonzo Jones
Ex-Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a scary injury while playing for the Broncos yesterday. The play took place late in the third quarter when Teddy “two gloves” made a mad dash through the center of the Cincinnati defense to try and pick up a first down with hopes of keeping his team’s drive alive.
Bridgewater dove head first into the ground while being hit from behind by a Bengals defensive lineman. He laid on the ground knocked unconscious for several minutes. The game was paused for quite a while as the entire stadium looked on with concern that was certainly warranted. The former Cardinal standout was then carted off the field after having his facemask removed. Bridgewater was taken to a nearby hospital and kept overnight as a precautionary measure, but it was reported that he had feeling in all his extremities.
He is now in concussion protocol since being released and should be able to return to action when he is cleared by NFL officials and team doctors.
This is not Bridgewater’s first brush with serious injury. The 2014 draft pick suffered a devastating non-contact knee injury in 2016 that effectively ended his tenure as the Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback. The former NFL Rookie of the Year has since bounced around the league as a prized top level backup, but he seems to have found a home starting for the Denver Broncos.
Cards fans should all wish for a speedy recovery so that he can continue representing the University of Louisville in an outstanding manner on and off the field. Heal up Teddy!
