Most Louisville basketball fans have accepted that the program is currently under construction as it endures another long losing streak of currently five games. Compound that last stat with the additional blow of the Cardinals mutually agreeing with former head coach Chris Mack to buyout his contract.

The latest news breaking headline coming from KFC Yum! Center was that of Malik Williams indefinite suspension imposed by former assistant coach turned interim head coach Mike Pegues. Pegues expressed his desire for all members of the team to “do things the right way.” Now after missing two games against North Carolina and Syracuse, Malik Williams was back at practice with the team yesterday.

Back into the fold for the Cards

The senior swing man’s return should serve as some tasty sauce sprinkled onto a season that has already lacked a flavor that would satisfy even the most casual Louisville hoops fan. Williams is the Cards leading scorer this season and clearly his presence on the floor has been missed. I fully expect Williams to suit up for the Cardinals against Notre Dame tomorrow night on the road.

Considering the way Louisville has played thus far, it will need a slew of big wins over quality opponents to even get a whiff of the table snacks permeating from this year’s “Big Dance” in March. Hopefully the return of Williams along with the continued contributions of El Ellis and Noah Locke at guard will be enough to rattle the tourney selection committee’s fence.
