Louisville Football’s Week 7 Injury Report
Fifth-year senior Malik Cunningham was injured towards the end of Louisville‘s matchup with Boston College. He left the game with concussion-like symptoms and would not return. Brock Domann assumed the quarterback responsibilities in the final quarter against Boston College and for the full game against Virginia.
Cunningham’s status for the matchup against Pittsburgh is set as questionable for now but hopeful that with an extra week to recover that he will be eligible to play. Joining him on the sidelines is Tennessee transfer Tiyon Evans, who moved to the top of the depth chart as soon as he stepped on campus. He is a reliable back with good vision and can pound it in on the goal line, which is why he such an important part of this offense.
Evans keeps Louisville’s offense run-centric when he and Malik take the field together because either one of them could take off at any moment. For example, Tiyon carried the load the whole first series against Boston College but Malik ended up running it in for a touchdown. He is listed as questionable for Pittsburgh’s game as well with an undisclosed injury. His backup, Jalen Mitchell, is listed as questionable with a leg injury.
Trevion Cooley, Jawhar Jordan, and Maurice Turner shared the load in the backfield against Virginia while those top two guys were out. They were productive against the Cavaliers gaining 129 total rushing yards with quarterback Brock Domann adding his own 71 yards.
Three notable Cardinals who are out for the season are junior quarterback Evan Conley, junior wide receiver Dee Wiggins, and senior defensive lineman Jermayne Lole.
Lole transferred to Louisville from Arizona State for his senior season. Last season with the Sun Devils, he was out the entire year with a triceps injury. After the season he entered the transfer portal and committed to the University of Louisville where he was locked in as Dezmond Tell’s backup. But in the first game of the season against Syracuse he injured his elbow, sidelining him for the entire season again.
Junior quarterback Evan Conley is still recovering from an offseason hip surgery while his teammate Dee Wiggins suffered a season-ending toe injury in their game against Florida State. Hoping to see these athletes recover quickly and continue to make an impact on the football program.
