Headband CEO El Ellis kicks off his senior season with a return to the Dunk Contest tonight at Louisville Slugger Field.

Defending dunk contest champion El Ellis looks to go back-to-back tonight at Louisville Live. His perfect dunk to win the contest last year was otherworldly and he is more than capable of defending his crown.

In a sit-down interview for This Is Louisville, Ellis talks about his transition back to full-time point guard, guys being bought into Coach Payne’s system, and becoming a leader on the court for the Cards. Exciting times are ahead for the University of Louisville program as it looks to be in the dominant basketball schools conversation again.

The 6-foot-3 guard said his personal goal at Louisville is to “get Louisville back to that winning culture.” His passion for the program and dedication to greatness has translated to the court where he has put in the work to get better. Coach Payne looks to build off of his leadership in his inagural season at the helm for the Cardinals to change the culture for years to come.

The dawn of the new culture starts with tonight’s Louisville Live.

Peyton Siva and Angel McCoughtry are set to host, Jack Harlow is set to perform, and Ellis is set to face off against junior forward JJ Traynor and sophomore forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield in the dunk contest. Highly coveted guards AJ Johnson and Elliot Cadeau will be in attendance along with a trio of five-star wings in Karter Knox, Carter Bryant, and Trentyn Flowers.

Tonight could change the future for Louisville basketball with all of the high school talent that will be in the building. Coach Payne and staff are not out of the running on these athletes yet and look to leave an impression on them as they take time to visit The Ville.
