After thirteen straight wins, the Louisville volleyball team fell in five sets to the Pittsburgh Panthers. This loss sent Louisville from #2 in the AP Poll to #4 in the AP Poll. Still a top five program in the nation, Louisville rebounded from this loss in a sweep of the Notre Dame Irish.
This win was important not only because it got the Cardinals back to their winning ways but also because there was an attendance record set at this game.
The faithfulness of Cardinal Nation is something to note over these past couple of weeks. Showing up for Louisville Live, Homecoming weekend for Louisville football’s win over the Pittsburgh Panthers, and now setting a record at Louisville volleyball vs. Notre Dame.
This win over the Irish could be labeled as the “Amaya Tillman Show”. The 6-foot-3 senior tallied 12 kills and 8 blocks. She led the Cardinals to a huge win over the Irish and would ultimately swing the momentum back in favor of Louisville after their heartbreaking loss to the Panthers.
The always reliable Claire Chaussee finished the game with 16 kills and tallied 1 assist. Chaussee’s consistency and discipline grounds this Louisville team which has allowed them to dominate this season.
The Cardinals did not give the Irish a chance to get into the game totaling 61 points to the Irish’s 29. Louisville almost doubled the amount of kills Notre Dame had with 43 to their 23. It seems as if Louisville was playing frustrated coming off of their loss to Pittsburgh, so they decided to take it out on the team from South Bend.
As it stands, Louisville has a 20-2 record with a symmetrical record at home and on the road (9-1). The Cardinals built off their win over Notre Dame by beating Duke at home just two nights later. Next up for Louisville volleyball is North Carolina State at home on November 4, 2022 for their third game amidst their four-game home stand.
