Travel back in time to March 2019, the Louisville Cardinals baseball team were taking on the James Madison Dukes in a three-game series at home in Jim Patterson Stadium. An undisclosed member of the Dukes baseball team took a shot at the historic Louisville Baseball Stadium, labeling it as ‘the southie projects.’
A few short months prior to this date, Scott Satterfield was named the Head Coach of the University of Louisville football program in December 2018, foregoing his position at Appalachian State.
A theory swirling Louisville Twitter is that Scott Satterfield was either in attendance for this series between Louisville and James Madison or heard about this derogatory comment directed towards the Cardinal facilities. Either way, that is not something Mr. and Mrs. Jim Patterson would have wanted to hear about their stadium that cost north of eight million dollars to develop.
After such comments were made, the Cardinals seemed to have taken that personally as the Dukes would go on to struggle in nearly every sport they competed in against Louisville.
In the series in March of 2019, the Dukes were swept by the Cardinals three games to none. In August of 2021, the women’s soccer team outpaced the Dukes 4-3. Following up in September of 2022, they ended the game in a draw at 0-0.
In October of 2021, the Louisville women’s field hockey team took home the win over James Madison University with a 1-0 victory and followed it up earlier this year with another 1-0 victory in September of this year.
Adding onto that fuel was the Louisville football team this past Saturday when they defeated the Dukes 34-10 in convincing fashion. The streak continues for the Cardinals over the Dukes and the reality is that Louisville has JMU’s number across all sports. The grit, tenacity, and determination of these male and female athletes is something to be proud of as fans continue to cheer on the streak.
