PRO CARD REPORT

This is the first installment of the Pro Card Report, an installment in the Big Red Louie archives that will report on the current athletes in professional sports all across the NFL, NBA, and the MLB that used to play for the Louisville Cardinals.

First, let’s dive in to the former Cardinals who play in the NBA.

6. Gorgui Dieng

The Kebemer, Senegal native played under Rick Pitino from 2010-2013. Following his junior season as a Cardinal in 2012-2013, he entered his name into the 2013 NBA Draft and was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 21st pick in the first round. It was in Minnesota where he has spent the majority of his NBA tenure donning a Timberwolves jersey for seven seasons.

Following the 2019-2020 season, Dieng left the Timberwolves organization to pursue an opportunity with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he spent two seasons in Memphis, Tennessee only playing in 39 games.

After leaving the Grizzlies organization, he spent one season as a member of the San Antonio Spurs under Gregg Popovich’s legendary coaching. Dieng hopped over to the Atlanta Hawks for one season and now is back in San Antonio where he has only seen court time in ten of the Spurs’ 19 games.

5. Montrezl Harrell

Harrell was a teammate of Gorgui Dieng for one season, which was his freshman season in 2012-2013. The Hargrave Military Academy graduate spent three seasons as a Louisville Cardinal. He entered his name into the 2015 NBA Draft where he was selected by the Houston Rockets with the second pick of the second round.

The 6-foot-8 forward has been an NBA mercenary spending times on several different teams throughout his NBA tenure. His first two seasons were spent with the Rockets, followed by three seasons with the Clippers, and one season with the Lakers.

Following his 69 game appearances as a Laker with only one game as a starter, Harrell took his talents to the Washington Wizards for half a season before being traded to the Charlotte Hornets.

Now, he is currently a member of the Philadelphia 76ers where he has appeared in 16 games and is averaging 4.8 points.
