Rueben Owens II is a five-star running back recruit from El Campo, Texas who was committed to Scott Satterfield’s staff at the University of Louisville. Owens was set to become one of the highest ranked recruits Louisville had ever landed.
However, with Scott Satterfield accepting the Head Coach position at the University of Cincinnati there is subject to be a lot of turnover in the Cardinals’ top-ranked recruiting class, potentially. A huge reason for potential turnover is the fact that a large portion of Louisville’s coaching staff has assumed their same positions with the Cincinnati Bearcats football program.
The biggest factor in this scenario is former Louisville running backs coach De’Rail Sims just accepted a position with the Cincinnati Bearcats as an assistant coach. Sims has been given credit for recruiting Trevion Cooley to Louisville, Rueben Owens, and Class of 2024 Louisville commit Isaac Brown.
For the El Campo, Texas standout, Louisville seemed like a blend of a perfect storm due to the ability to sign NIL deals, an Adidas sponsored school, and an amazing running backs coach in De’Rail Sims. But it seems as if Sims was the glue that was holding this equation together as with his loss brought Owens recommitment.
Not long after his official decommitment from the Louisville program, Owens announced his official commitment to Texas A&M University.
A Texas native stays home in College Station and will have an immediate impact for the Aggies on the field. Louisville Report’s Matt McGavic reported earlier this year that Owens was going to be an early enrollee at the University of Louisville, which means that with his academic studies in order, he could be on campus for Aggies Head Coach Jimbo Fisher in a month.
