The Transfer Portal officially opened on December 5, 2022. Now five days after the opening, there have been several Louisville Cardinals who have entered their name into the Transfer Portal, joining the aformentioned names that included Jalen Mitchell, Trevion Cooley, Derrick Edwards III, Caleb Banks, and Nicario Harper.

Embarking on a quick update for the names mentioned above, there has been movement for a couple of those guys. Nicario Harper has committed to the University of Illinois FIghting Illini, which will make his fourth collegiate stop.

Derrick Edwards III has withdrawn his name from the Transfer Portal since the staffing changes from Scott Satterfield to Jeff Brohm were announced. He has yet to play an official snap as a Cardinal, but has seen time on special teams. His production under new leadership has yet to be seen.

A name that was not mentioned above is linebacker Benjamin Perry. Perry entered his name into the transfer portal a mere three days ago, as reported by Sports Illustrated’s Matt McGavic. Today, he was seen on the field donning his Louisville uniform and now he has officially announced that he is returning to the Cardinals.

Here is a list of players whose names are still swirling around in a Transfer Portal that boasts 1000+ names nationwide:

Rance Conner

A former three-star prospect, the Miami native was a listed redshirt freshman on the roster this season. In 2021, he only appeared in four games and recorded four tackles in the First Responder Bowl against Air Force. In 2022, he recorded one tackle against UCF, caught an interception against Florida State, and recovered a fumble against Boston College. Conner is looking for another opportunity as the staff he committed under is now at the University of Cincinnati.

Max Cabana

The former three-star prospect originally from Quebec, Canada also has history of playing hockey. The 6-foot-5.5 offensive lineman used to line up between the pipes as a goalie back in Canada. However, he decided to pursue a career in football and joined the Cardinals as a true freshman last season. Cabana never saw the field during his time here in Louisville and is looking for more opportunity elsewhere.

Luke Kandra

The three-star offensive lineman entered the portal following the news of Scott Satterfield accepting the Head Coach position at the University of Cincinnati. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kandra saw an opportunity to not only play in his hometown but play in a system that he was familiar with under Satterfield. So, he announced fairly quickly that he committed to the Bearcats via his social media account.

Henry Bryant

The three-star defensive lineman has been on the Cardinals roster for three years, dating back to 2020. Despite his zero appearances on the field in 2020, Bryant decided to return to Louisville in which he would appear in ten of the twelve games the following season. However, those appearances came on special teams. This year he recorded one tackle in the massive upset win over Wake Forest, but has decided to end his time in Louisville this year by entering his name into the transfer portal.

Zach Edwards

The 6-foot-3 defensive lineman out of Starkville, Mississippi has been with the Cardinals since 2019, but has never really seen the field much. This season he recored two solo tackles and an assisted tackle. All three of those tackles came in the first two games of the season and he did not record anything else for the rest of the season.

KJ Cloyd

Like Edwards, a fellow native of Mississippi, the 6-foot-2 linebacker has been with the Cardinals since 2020. Cloyd recorded 15 total tackles, one fumble recovery, and two quarterback hurries this season. But, the time on the field was not enough for him and he decided to pursue other opportunities through the portal.

Christian Pedersen

The three-star tight end out of San Mateo, California entered his name into the transfer portal in July, as reported by Sports Illustrated’s Matt McGavic. Pedersen never saw the field as he was slotted in the depth chart behind the tight end standout Marshon Ford among others. As of Monday of this week, Pedersen announced his commitment to Florida International University in Miami, Florida.
