Louisville goes for 2 in a row with win over Rattlers
The Kenny Payne era started off on the wrong foot with nine consecutive losses, but ever since Jeff Brohm was hired as the Head Football Coach, the basketball team has been undefeated. Garnering an impressive win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, the Cardinals followed it up with a win over the Florida A&M Rattlers, finishing them off with a final score of 61-55.
The offensive effort was not as impressive as their last game, but the poor shooting percentage for the Rattlers helped give the Cardinals the edge. Florida A&M finished the game shooting 34.4% from the field and a woeful 27.3% from behind the arc.
Guard Jordan Tillmon netted two threes, which tied him with his fellow guard Dimingus Stevens. Stevens went 2-for-6 from behind the arc and 3-10 from the field. Not a great showing for these two guards, and the amount of missed shots on their end provided more rebounding opportunities for the Cardinals.
The most notable statistic for Louisville was Sydney Curry’s 19 rebounds with 14 of them coming on the defensive side of the ball. Curry’s impact on the boards was a key component in helping achieve a double-double as he also contributed 13 points to the point total.
A glaring missed opportunity for the Cardinals was their poor shooting percentage from behind the arc. Louisville finished the game going 3-for-14 from long range, which pales in comparison to their 52.0% three point percentage in the previous game against the Hilltoppers.
The shots that were falling in their previous game were not falling today, but despite their three-point efforts, they were still able to pull out the win and secure their second win of the season.
Next up for Louisville is Lipscomb University at 6:00 PM EST on December 20, 2022. The Bisons currently sit with a 7-5 record on the season. But, the former 8-1 Hilltoppers were no match for the Cardinals, so those numbers are just numbers at the end of the day.
