Before the Scott Satterfield administration left the Louisville Cardinals for the Cincinnati Bearcats in early December, the Cardinals had a three-headed dragon of five-star running back Rueben Owens, four-star quarterback Pierce Clarkson, and four-star wide receiver DeAndre Moore coming into Louisville as the faces of the program for years to come.

Once De’Rail Sims left with Satterfield to go up interstate-71 to join the Bearcats, Owens decommitted from Louisville and flipped to Texas A&M to join the Aggies. As far as DeAndre Moore, who was rated 0.9555 by 247 Sports, seemed to always be loose with his Louisville commitment and ultimately flipped to the Longhorns a few days after signing day to catch passes from Arch Manning over the next few years instead of his high school quarterback Pierce Clarkson in The Ville.

Even with these two massive losses for the Cardinals, newly installed Head Coach Jeff Brohm salvaged the commitment of Pierce Clarkson and proved his willingness to sacrifice his time and energy to get face-to-face with both Pierce and his well-known father, Steve Clarkson.

After losing Moore to Austin, Texas, there was a huge hole at the wide receiver position for the incoming class. But, little did we know that Jeff Brohm was hard at work behind the scenes and has been since the day he officially stepped on campus.

The Louisville fanbase saw the fruits of his labor roar yesterday with the commitment of former four-star recruit and Jackson State wide receiver transfer Kevin Coleman Jr. Coming out of high school, Coleman was rated as a 0.9733 overall prospect, according to 247 Sports.

As the world has seen with the performance of Lamar Jackson in college, a rating is just a rating and what really translates to the next level is the athlete’s work ethic, motor, and passion for the game. Coming out of high school, Jackson was only rated as a three-star prospect, but he electrified the nation with his weekly explosions on the field for the Cardinals.

So, with that in mind, how do DeAndre Moore and Kevin Coleman compare by the numbers?

DeAndre Moore | WR | Signed with Texas Longhorns | Class of 2023 | 6′ | 185 lbs.

In his senior season at St. John Bosco High School, Moore recorded four rushes, 45 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, 22 receptions, 483 receiving yards, eight receiving touchdowns, and 20 kick returns.

Moore has the explosion to make an impact at the Division I weapon and could be a serious weapon for Arch Manning next season.

Kevin Coleman Jr. | WR | Committed to the Louisville Cardinals | Class of 2021 | 5’11” | 170 lbs.

In his senior season at St. Mary’s High School in St. Louis, Missouri, Coleman recorded 37 receptions, 985 receiving yards, 17 receiving touchdowns, 37 rushes, 435 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, and 21 kickoff and punt returns for 573 yards and six touchdowns.

As a freshman at Jackson State, the speedy 5-foot-11 receiver recorded 510 receiving yards and three touchdowns, which earned him the 2022 SWAC Freshman of the Year.

Granted Coleman has a season of collegiate football under his belt, but the production in high school for both of these players is astounding and it is now safe to say that Jeff Brohm has filled the void left by DeAndre Moore with the explosive signing of Kevin Coleman.

Ever since Brohm was officially hired, the excitement of his air-raid offense has transcended Louisville Twitter and now with a weapon like Coleman, quarterback Jack Plummer can rack up some serious yards in his final season of eligibility.
