Louisville lands WR commit in Georgia State’s Jamari Thrash
By Joshua Tipton
Meet Jamari Thrash, the man leading the Louisville Cardinals in receptions in 2023. It’s Sunday morning, the beginning of a new week, and you know what that means–a new commitment for Jeff Brohm and the Louisville Cardinals.
Jamari Thrash, a 6-foot, 180-lb. senior from Georgia State, has announced he is transferring to the University of Louisville. Jamari Thrash was spotted sitting front row at the Louisville Basketball game, alongside Jeff Brohm and incoming quarterback transfer Jack Plummer Saturday afternoon.
Jamari Thrash marks the fifth commitment to the University of Louisville over the last 72 hours. The Louisville Cardinals have earned the promises of four-star Miami DB transfer Gilbert Frierson, four-star wide receiver transfer Kevin Coleman, 2024 five-star linebacker TJ Capers, and a reaffirmation from four-star tight end Jamari Johnson.
Unexpectedly over the weekend, Louisville WR Dee Wiggins announced he would enter the transfer portal, but Jeff Brohm had an upgrade in waiting. Jamari Thrash will come to Louisville as a graduate transfer.
As a senior at Georgia State, Thrash led the Panthers in receptions and yards, totaling an impressive 1,122 yards and 60 receptions, while adding in seven touchdowns. Dee Wiggins had four catches for 67 yards as a Louisville Cardinal. Much like Thrash, he joined the Cardinals as a graduate transfer, but suffered a season-ending foot injury in the third game this past season. Due to this unfortunate event, he never really had the opportunity he deserved with Louisville.
With the addition of Jamari Thrash, the Louisville receiving group is starting to fill out. Thrash joins Jackson State transfer Kevin Coleman Jr. alongside freshmen Jahlil McClain, William Fowles, and Cataurus Hicks.
Returning for the Cardinals are Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, Chris Bell, and Elijah Downing. The receiving corps is shaping into an impressive collection of talent. Jeff Brohm likes to air it out in his offense, as seen at Purdue, and this is a fast, speedy group of players he’s put together.
Louisville fans had high expectations for Jeff Brohm, but no one expected Brohm to have this much success this early. He is already recruiting at such a high level with only being on the job for about a month.
The Class of 2024, with only two commitments, is a consensus top-ten class already. He’s bringing in players who fit his scheme and a quarterback who already knows his system. Now comes the hard part–waiting for the 2023 season to begin.
