Senior Linebacker Monty Montgomery Transferring From the University of Louisville
Three weeks after receiving a medical waiver, Louisville senior linebacker Monty Montgomery has put his name in the NCAA transfer portal. Monty Montgomery enrolled at the University of Louisville in July 2019, after a junior college stint at Hutchison Community College in Kansas, and has been a staple for the Cardinals since then.
As a junior with the Cardinals, Montogomery suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 3 against the UCF Knights. In 2022, Monty Montogmery returned to finish second in tackles with a total of 70. He also created four forced fumbles, contributed six sacks, and recorded two interceptions.
The void left by Monty Montgomery’s transfer will likely be short-lived. Jeff Brohm has needed little help filling in positions on offense and defense since his arrival in December of last year. Jeff Brohm has a lot to smile about. The Louisville Cardinals are rolling on the recruiting trail.
A week ago, Brohm was pictured sitting front row at the Yum Center with incoming Louisville players QB Jack Plummer and WR Jamari Thrash. Last week, the Cardinals had a record recruiting week. Players such as Miami safety Gilbert Frierson, Jackson State wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr, Wisconsin running back Isaac Guerendo, Class of 2024 linebacker TJ Capers, and four-star tight end Jamari Johnson announced they would attend the University of Louisville. Rated as the number one overall linebacker in the nation, TJ Capers is now Louisville’s highest-rated recruit to ever commit to the Cardinals, just edging out running back Michael Bush.
Monty Montgomery is a consummate teammate and an even better person. Any school he elects to go to this offseason is getting a player who has a high competitive motor and a huge fan favorite.
