It appears Louisville football is in on another south Florida talent in the Class of 2024. Fellow teammate of current Louisville commit, five-star linebacker TJ Capers, defensive lineman Daylen Russell has recently announced his top-five schools. One of those five schools is the University of Louisville.

Russell is currently listed as a three-star prospect, according to Rivals.com. The Miami, Florida native recently received a scholarship offer just a mere two days ago and already arose to being in his top five destinations for his post-high school career.

One benefit of him coming to Louisville is that he would keep the door of the south Florida to Louisville pipleline wide open and he would join his high school teammate, TJ Capers, in the Ville. Jeff Brohm has been hard at work in extending offers to Class of 2024 prospects and Daylen Russell is one of the latest beneficiaries of his generosity.

If a highly-coveted high school player is coming out of South Florida, then odds are Louisville will extend them an offer alongside other in-state programs like the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of Miami.

Russell currently has Louisville alongside three Florida programs in Miami, Central Florida, and Florida State. Nebraska is the only other school outside the Sunshine State competing for his services.

Since Jeff Brohm’s short time in being at the helm for the Cardinals, he has sured up an impressive defensive line, adding Stephen Herron Jr, Rodney McGraw, Micah Carter, and Saadiq Clements over the last month. Right now, TJ Capers is a verbal commit and will continue to be until the Early Signing Period opens in December of this year.

Russell could add more depth to this defensive line and could be an important piece for the Cardinals in years to come in Defensive Coordinator Ron English’s defense.

This past season, as a junior, the 6-foot-3 mammoth of a high schooler put up 40 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, 51 total tackles, 7 sacks, 3 quarterback hurries, and one forced fumble. If he can have that kind of season as a junior and with a teammate of TJ Capers’ caliber, then he can make an immense impact on the collegiate gridiron.
