Cardinal Stadium is now L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium
The University of Louisville Board of Trustees held a meeting of significant importance at 12:00 PM EST today to discuss the rebranding of the iconic Cardinal Stadium. This is the second major meeting they have held in the past two months, following the first time in December when the hiring of Head Football Coach Jeff Brohm was made official.
Cardinal Stadium has been without an official sponsor since 2018, when Papa John’s was removed as the official stadium sponsor following founder and former CEO John Schnatter’s use of a racial slur in a conference call. Papa John had been in a long partnership with the University of Louisville and became synonymous with the program for many years before the mutual agreement fell apart seemingly overnight.
Holding the moniker of simply Cardinal Stadium for nearly five full years, it has now rebranded under L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium with the announcement of the 20 year partnership worth north of $40 million dollars. Founded in Louisville, KY, L&N Federal Credit Union has deep ties to the city of Louisville, much like its former successor, Papa John’s.
Louisville fans, staff, and players alike will find rest in knowing that their prized football stadium is not being outsourced to a company who has zero ties to the city of Louisville. Founded in 1954, L&N Credit Union was originally berthed to serve the railroad workers on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, hence the abbreviation L&N.
Since its inception, L&N has now extended its range of customers past only railroad workers and now services the greater Kentuckiana area. With branches in southern Indiana, northern Kentucky, southeast Kentucky, and in Louisville, any and all prospective customers needing a new bank account can find assurance at the L&N Credit Union.
