It has been difficult to stop and take a breath since early December for the Louisville football program due to the overhaul of the coaching staff, roster players entering the transfer portal, new players coming in through the transfer portal, the Class of 2023 recruiting class momentarily hanging in the balance, the uncertainty surrounding the Early Signing Period, and now National Signing Day that concluded last night.

Just hours before National Signing Day, Jeff Brohm filled out his coaching staff and now all of the verbal commits post-Early Signing Period are now officially inked to the Louisville Cardinals. Georgia State wide receiver Jamari Thrash and Jackson State wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. officially become Cardinals.

Wisconsin running back Isaac Guerendo will be able to compliment the other running backs we have on the roster with his power back-like build. Jamari Johnson officially becomes a Cardinal after postponing his signing from when the Early Signing Period opened until the All-American Bowl on January 7, 2023.

Virginia offensive lineman John Paul Flores has already arrived on campus, according to Head Coach Jeff Brohm and he will be in the trenches protecting new California transfer quarterback Jack Plummer, who has been previously coached under Jeff Brohm at Purdue University.

On the other side of the ball, Texas A&M defensive back Marquis Groves-Killebrew officially becomes a Cardinal along with Miami defensive back/linebacker Gilbert Frierson. In the trenches on the defensive side of the line, Stanford edge rusher and Louisville native Stephen Herron Jr. comes home to play for his hometown team.

Coming to Louisville from high school is three-star offensive lineman Joe Crocker out of Franklin Road Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, who now joins Madden Sanker and Luke Burgess as new talent for the offensive line. Both Burgess and Sanker have already been on campus since early January.

In his Signing Day Press Conference, Jeff Brohm told the media that he still has several open spots left on his roster and mentions that a good coach always keeps an eye out for offensive and defensive line depth, which could have been foreshadowing of the William “Woo” Spencer signing that happened hours later.

Woo Spencer chose his hometown Cardinals over the rival Wildcats in what was documented as one of the most back-and-forth recruiting battles in recent memory, particularly between two teams that do not like each other very much. But, with his commitment, it puts a stamp on the idea that Jeff Brohm would come back home and be able to recruit the city and surrounding areas well.

And he accomplished that with this recruiting victory over Vince Marrow, the University of Kentucky’s Recruiting Coordinator and Associate Head Coach. Jeff Brohm is the polar opposite of Scott Satterfield in this way because Satterfield never made it a priority to recruit the city that is home to his own university.

This left the door open for Kentucky to secure eight high school prospects over the past four years, including highly coveted Kiyaunta Goodwin, who played for Ballard High School before transferring across the river to Charlestown High School. Unfortunately for the WIldcats, Goodwin transferred after one season in Lexington and went to their SEC rival Florida Gators this offseason.

But, the tide is now turning for the Louisville Cardinals and Jeff Brohm is making it a point to take the city of Louisville by storm. And landing Woo Spencer cements that desire into reality. Yet, that does not exclude his attention from traveling to other parts of the country.

A few other additions to the Louisville football program include Brown University wide receiver transfer Allan Houston III. Houston III accepted a walk-on offer from the Brohm administration and fills one of a few walk-on holes in the wide receiver room left by Tye Moore, Bradley West, and Christian Henry.

Joining Houston III is Preston Stacy, an athlete from Woodford County High School in Versailles, Kentucky. Stacy is most likely a walk-on, but its unclear at this point if he is a walk-on or a preferred walk-on. The difference between the two is that preferred walk-ons still receive free football gear and uniforms, along with the guarantee of a roster spot held for them. Walk-ons do not receive that same opportunity.
