From the time he stepped foot back onto the campus of the University of Louisville, Jeff Brohm has had the local crop of high school prospects set into his crosshares. He has landed a plethora of talent within both the city limits of Louisville and the surrounding areas. And now he has added another Kentucky product to his Louisville football team. This time it is two-way athlete Destin Cheirs out of Madisonville North-Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Kentucky.

Destin Cheirs joins a loaded list of talent cropped in the state of Kentucky, including Bullitt East quarterback Travis Egan, St. Xavier linebacker Jaxon Panariello, DeSales offensive tackle James Glover-Tyson, Ballard defensive back Jaden Minkins, Trinity punter Carter Schwartz, and Eastern offensive tackle Quintez Thomas.

According to his Twitter bio, Cheirs will be playing on the defensive side of the ball primarily for the Louisville football program, and also would not be surprised to see him appear on special teams. During his senior season at Madisonville North-Hopkins, the 6-foot-3 190-pound specimen finished the year with five receptions, 87 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown, one solo tackle, one assisted tackle, two total tackles, and 3 kickoffs returned for 109 yards, according to MaxPreps.

Also, during his sophomore season he was named to the 2020 Class 4A All-WKC (Western Kentucky Conference) Football Team as a wide receiver who made six receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown.

If you may be confused as to why he was named to the All-WKC team as a wide receiver, he recently answered that question. He told Big Red Louie:

"“Yes crazy thing is I played WR my whole life and then started actually playing corner last year during the late summer for my 7on7 P2P team up in Louisville bc we started losing players due to other activities they were doing like track so that opened up doors for me to play corner and I started playing it late summer and just worked from when I played with them to working by myself and watching videos of how to become a better corner and it just started asking players in college how to do this or how to play this player this way…”"

Cheirs adds depth to a talented incoming class of defensive backs, including Jaden Minkins, Marquis Groves-Killebrew, Gilbert Frierson, Aaron Williams, and Devin Neal Jr. Ron English is going to have some elite talent to develop over the next few years.
