Five-star center, according to Rivals.com, Dennis Evans has officially committed to the University of Louisville. The 7-foot-1 rim-protector arrived on campus yesterday for an official visit with Head Coach Kenny Payne and staff. His commitment comes at a crucial time for the Louisville basketball program because in a span of 24-hours, the Cardinals lost three members of last year’s team in Fabio Basili, Devin Ree, and Kamari Lands.
It was reported by Travis Graf of 247Sports that a source close to him told him this information, and then right after that multiple media members corroborated the information and gave the Louisville fanbase something very exciting to hold onto.
The former University of Minnesota signee Dennis Evans was rumored to join the Cardinals very soon after his request for release from his National Letter of Intent. It was reported that one of the reasons he asked out of Minnesota was because of the lack of NIL opportunities in the Twin Cities, and that is one area that Louisville has a lot to offer in.
The opportunity for NIL money, the available scholarships on the roster, and the timing of his official visit this weekend created a perfect storm for the Cardinals to land one of the nation’s top available players.
Evans is the first domino to fall in a critical week for the Louisville basketball program. In just five short days, 2024 five-star combo guard Trentyn Flowers is set to make his college decision on the 247Sports YouTube channel and is rumored to have Louisville in his Top 2 or Top 3 schools. If Kenny Payne lands both Evans and Flowers in the same week, then the projection of the program skyrockets overnight and the future of the Louisville Cardinals is exponentially brighter than it was just one week ago.
