Louisville basketball: Transfer portal update. Who’s trending to the Cardinals?
By Jake Hook
Keyon Menifield – Guard – 6’1 – University of Washington
I debated on whether I should include this player, because I feel like most of Card Nation knows this one didn’t go our way, but I’m sure there are some that may not have heard the news.
Menifield came to Washington last year outside of the Top-200 in the class of 2022, but that ranking didn’t stop him from producing for the Huskies this year.
The ever-elusive guard put up 10 points and 3 assists per game on 41% shooting last year. Those numbers may not be the greatest, but he had some huge flashes in his freshman year.
The Cardinals coaching staff was quick to show interest in Menifield, and they even made his top-6 schools he was considering, but, to the shock of many, he chose the Razorbacks over the Cards.
This decision sent Louisville Twitter up into flames, and I think rightfully so. Menifield was a guy the staff clearly prioritized, and some considered Louisville to be one of the favorites to land him. The staff reached out and showed enough interest to be included in his top-6, so it hurts to see him go elsewhere.
You’re not going to hit on every recruit, but it is difficult to see the staff swing and miss on so many players recently. Hopefully, that luck can change soon. There are still thousands of players in the portal, so there’s a ton of chances for the staff to improve this roster for next year.
Be on the lookout for next week’s transfer portal update. Hopefully, that edition will be filled with new recruits and potentially a commitment.
