“Be a dog.” | Carter Bryant discusses talks with KG and more in interview
2024 five-star forward Carter Bryant recently interviewed with Pro Insight’s Tyler Glazier after a scrimmage between Team USA and the Portland Generals at the Nike Hoop Summit in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
recently trimmed his list of schools down to the University of Louisville and the University of Arizona. However, at this time, it feels like the Cardinals are in the driver’s seat. Just over one month ago,
three Rivals insiders FutureCasted
the 6-foot-8, 200-pound athlete to join the Louisville Cardinals two seasons from now.
Bryant is a consensus five-star prospect and is rated as the No. 1 overall player in the state of California for the Class of 2024. During the interview, the man behind the camera, Tyler Glazier, asks him multiple questions about what he can do to get better, talking with the legendary NBA player Kevin Garnett, and how he feels about Louisville and Arizona.
As far as improvements he can make in his game, Bryant mentions his ball handling as a primary area of improvement for him. He is already rated as a five-star prospect, but that does not stop him from the drive to succeed and motivate him to get better each day.
Later in the interview, Glazier asks, “What was some of the advice he [Kevin Garnett] shared with you?”
To which Bryant replied with a smile, “Just be a dog.” If you followed Kevin Garnett’s career at any point, you know he was just that: an absolute dog on the court. And for him to tell Carter Bryant the same thing means that he sees impressive potential in the Sage Hill High School product.
Following the question about Kevin Garnett, Glazier shifted the conversation to the two schools Bryant is still considering: Louisville and Arizona. Here is what he had to say about the Cardinals’ coaching staff.
"“Coach Payne, um, Coach Smith, um, I mean Coach [Milt] Wagner. I mean you can’t say enough about them. Just a bunch of legendary guys. Coach KP coached under, um, he was with Coach Calipari, coached at Oregon for a few years. Just a legendary coach. He’s pushed out a lot of pros, been in the gym, late nights, early mornings, all that. So, just learning from them as well. Coach Smith..he’s like an uncle to me. He’s always been there for me. He’s been there through my trials and errors. Talked to me after games and stuff like that, letting me know what I did good and letting me know what I needed to improve on, just getting feedback constantly. Coach Wagner, he’s a legend. He’s the all-time leading scorer, I still believe, in New Jersey. I just like learning from those guys. Speaking to them, just being receptive to the information they give me.”"
If you listen until the end of the interview, the portion of time that he spends on Louisville is more than the time that he spends on Arizona, which made it sound like, to him, there is more to be impressed by at the University of Louisville. He would be a major addition for Kenny Payne to the 2024 recruiting class, if he does elect to commit to the Cardinals over the Wildcats.
