As of this morning, another Division I signee has requested a release from his National Letter of Intent with a program. This time it is USC signee Silas Demary Jr., who is rated as a four-star prospect in the Class of 2023. Another interesting note is that he was the high school teammate of Louisville signee Trentyn Flowers.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound combo guard is a consensus four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the state of North Carolina, per 247Sports. 247Sports has Trentyn Flowers ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in North Carolina, at the time of this article.

Last season at Combine Academy, Demary averaged 13.9 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, and 5.7 assists per game. For comparison’s sake, Trentyn Flowers averaged 16.0 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game, and 1.2 assists per game.

Flowers was the leading scorer of the team and Demary was tied for second with junior Rakease Passmore.

The interesting note is that Louisville needs another guard and hasn’t gotten any out of the transfer portal, other than Skyy Clark from Illinois.

So, it leaves one to wonder if Kenny Payne has his focus directed more towards the high school ranks, and move more toward growing the roster with younger guys instead of temporary transfer additions.

The ties between Louisville and Silas Demary fall off after Trentyn Flowers, but it will be interesting to see if Kenny Payne reaches out, as he did with Garwey Dual and more recently Mackenzie Mgbako.

He’s definitely worth keeping an eye on for Louisville fans.
