The first transfer visit to the University of Louisville since Skyy Clark was announced yesterday by On3’s Joe Tipton. This time it is UMass transfer guard RJ Luis.

Per 247Sports’ rankings, RJ Luis is slotted in as the No. 44 overall recruit in the transfer portal. Luis stands at 6-foot-6 and plays the shooting guard position. Kenny Payne is a big fan of “big guards,” so his pursuit of the former three-star prospect makes sense.

There has been buzz surrounding the Louisville basketball program over the last week saying that there will be some big news coming out today. And that was kicked off with the announcement of RJ Luis taking an official visit to Louisville.

Oddly enough, the same day his visit was announced, 247Sports’ Travis Branham submitted a Crystal Ball prediction for the former UMass star to continue his collegiate education at Texas A&M University.

But, that came on the heels of an official visit to Texas A&M last weekend. So, his speculation makes sense. However, the fact that he visited College Station and didn’t commit could give Louisville fans hope as they seek to find out who the last three remaining scholarships will go to.

It was reported that the three of them will be extended to two guards and one big man. So, if RJ Luis does enjoy his time here in Louisville, then he could be one of the three recruits to receive an offer.

Coming out of high school, Luis was under-scouted, but sat down with On3 to discuss his recruitment and what he could offer to a program:

"“I put the ball in the basket,” Luis told On3. “It doesn’t matter how, whatever the defense gives me. I am a big wing and try to use my length to guard and disrupt the passing lanes. I’ve matured my game a lot this season, playing more aggressively. I watch a lot of the big guards like Jayson Tatum and Devin Booker. Tatum’s ability to create space at his size and Booker’s ability to get into his shot.”"

It’s clear he has confidence in himself, and that confidence was noticed by On3 as they had this to say about his game:

"“RJ Luis is a tough-nosed player who just exudes winning qualities. He comes from basketball lineage as his dad, Reggie Charles, was 6-foot-7 and had a 15-year pro career overseas. Luis is an excellent passer as an initiator in the pick and roll. He is a lockdown perimeter defender, both on and off the ball. While his jump shot can be streaky, he is also a noted scorer, with the pull-up and slashing to the basket.”"

Luis will be on-campus today and tomorrow, so he will be one to keep an eye on for Louisville fans.
