Daylen Russell is a three-star defensive end prospect from Miami, Florida. He currently attends Columbus High School in Miami, which is where Class of 2024 commit TJ Capers attends high school. And he recently trimmed his list of schools from five to three. The University of Louisville made the cut.

The 6-foot-1, 235-pound athlete announced his Top 5 schools just two months ago and has since trimmed it down to three: Louisville, Miami, and Nebraska. Head Coach Jeff Brohm and the University of Louisville football program appear to be in the driver’s seat as he has received two FutureCasts from Louisville insider Dave Lackford and Miami insider Frank Tucker on Rivals.com.

This past season, as a junior in high school, Russell recorded 40 solo tackles and 11 assisted tackles for a total of 51 tackles. He also recorded seven sacks, three forced fumbles, and three quarterback hurries. An impressive stat line for a junior who is the No. 132 overall prospect in the state of Florida, according to 247Sports.

For statistics’ sake, Daylen Russell and TJ Capers combined for 91 total tackles and 12 sacks last year. The two wreaked havoc last season for the Columbus Explorers and could continue the havoc if Russell commits to the Cardinals over the Hurricanes and Cornhuskers.

There is no official date yet when he will commit to a collegiate program, but one could anticipate it would be fairly soon if he has already trimmed his list down to the final 3 schools in April. At this rate, it is very possible that he commits to a program ahead of his senior season, which with the way it is trending: Louisville is in a very good position to land the three-star athlete.
