RJ Luis – Transfer from UMass – 6’6″ – 195 Pounds

RJ Luis was a three-star prospect coming out of high school in the Class of 2022. He committed to the University of Massachusetts last offseason and spent only one season with the Minutemen before entering his name in the transfer portal on April 4, 2023.

And a mere four days later, he had a list of Division I schools that could dwarf the list of his college offers coming out of high school. As a senior in high school, Luis boasted a dozen scholarship offers with the most notable programs being Rutgers and Kansas State.

But, as of now, Luis has offers from fifteen (known) schools, including Louisville, Texas A&M, Georgia, Florida, St. John’s, and Iowa State, among others. All of these schools are impressed with his size, athleticism, and ability to put the ball in the basket.

In his lone season at UMass, he averaged 11.5 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, and 1.3 assists per game with 31 total steals. He put together a decent resume for a true freshman, which likely added to the allure of so many programs being interested in the Mt. Zion Prep product.

According to On3, RJ Luis is a four-star transfer prospect and his recruitment is a race between the University of Louisville and Texas A&M University. Louisville has a slight edge in the Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 38.1% chance, while Texas A&M has a 33.3% chance. He took an official visit to College Station on the weekend of April 14th and followed it up with a visit to Louisville on April 19th.

A commitment date has yet to be announced but it will be interesting to see if chooses the Cardinals or the Aggies.
