Churchill Abass – Forward/Center – Class of 2023

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve written on the African-born big, but news recently broke that Churchill Abass is in America taking a visit. Unfortunately, that visit isn’t to Louisville.

The news does make sense, though. The staff just added a power forward, and they’re actively courting another, Mackenzie Mgbako, that would probably start and play 30 minutes at the four spot each night.

A few months ago, I watched as many full games of Abass as I could find, and I came away a little less impressed than I expected after seeing his high-flying highlights. He is ridiculously athletic and strong for his age, but he’s extremely raw. He doesn’t have a good feel for the game, and he isn’t much of a threat outside of 10 feet from the basket.

I do think he could end up turning into a beast, but I think that is a few years down the road. Without a visit set to Louisville, I’d expect Abass to go elsewhere.
