USC transfer wing Tre White has committed to Kenny Payne and the University of Louisville basketball program, according to The Athletic’s Tobias Bass.

Upon entering the transfer portal on April 19th, Tre White had received interest from Division I programs all across the country, but it was Kenny Payne’s program in Louisville, Kentucky that intrigued the versatile wing more than any other program.

Shortly after announcing his intention to enter the transfer portal, Tre White visited the University of Louisville on April 28th. Rumors began to swirl following his visit that it was a “very quick one” because it was immediately announced after his visit that he was headed to the University of Central Florida.

However, the Cardinals made more of an impact on him while he was here and now he can come into the Louisville offense as an immediate impact player. Tre White is a former consensus four-star prospect who played at Prolific Prep in Napa, California before committing to the USC Trojans as a member of the Class of 2022.

On3 recently listed him as a 97% chance to commit to the Louisville basketball program and it appears their hunch was correct. Kenny Payne now adds his third addition in the transfer portal with the other two being Illinois transfer Skyy Clark and Miami transfer Danilo Jovanovich.

With the massive incoming class for the Trojans, including their most recent addition of LeBron James’ son, Bronny James, it seemed there wasn’t much of a place for Tre White on Andy Enfield’s roster. But, what is one team’s surplus is another team’s need, and Kenny Payne and the Louisville basketball program need skilled guards, which is exactly what Tre White provides.

With his size at 6-foot-6, nearly 200 pounds, he can provide versatility between the two and the three positions. Noted for his playmaking ability, rhythmic shot-making, and ability to defend, Tre White fills a massive need that Louisville had last season. He will be the type of player who could immediately contend for starting lineup minutes.
