Mackenzie Mgbako – Forward – 6’8″ – Class of 2023

It’s been a roller coaster of a ride following the recruitment of the uber-talented McDonald’s All-American, but for Louisville fans that ride is over.

Since Mackenzie Mgbako’s de-commitment from Duke about a month ago, Louisville fans have been feigning for the ultra-skilled forward. As soon as Mgbako’s commitment re-opened, Louisville was considered the favorite.

But as more time passed, more questions were raised about the likelihood of Mgbako ending up in a Cardinals uniform. Mgbako announced a few weeks ago that he would visit St. John’s, Kansas, Indiana, and Louisville.

Visits to the first three schools happened as planned, but as time drew closer to his visit to Louisville, rumors began to fly that his visit may never happen. And earlier this week, those rumors were confirmed.

He would’ve been an incredible addition to the team, just based on his talent. But, from a roster construction standpoint, he made less sense. This team is full of forwards and bigs, while light on ball-handling guards. I’d be lying if I said missing out on his commitment doesn’t sting, but I do think adding a veteran guard makes a lot more sense.

So now, he is down to Kansas and Indiana. If I had to guess, I’d expect him to be a Jayhawk on Friday afternoon.
