In Memoriam
RJ Luis – Guard – 6’7″ – UMass

RJ Luis was the second official visit Louisville saw during the transfer portal, behind Skyy Clark, but the addition of Tre White made it unlikely the Cards would land him. Instead, Luis will be playing for a Louisville legend up north.

I hate to see it because I really liked Luis, but it seems like the staff preferred Tre White over Luis, and I’ll trust the staff on their decision. Tre White was ranked about 30 spots higher than Luis according to On3’s transfer portal player rankings.

I ended up watching three full games of Luis, in anticipation of a possible commitment, and I really liked what I saw from the young guard/wing. I’m glad the staff didn’t take both Luis and White, because we still need another playmaking guard, and Luis didn’t show a lot of playmaking ability in year one

The Johnnies got a really nice player, but there are better players that make more sense for this roster still out there in the portal.
