Ty-Laur Johnson – Point Guard – Four-Star Freshman – 6’0″ – 160 Pounds

Ty-Laur Johnson is one of the top unsigned high school athletes in the Class of 2023. According to 247Sports, he is a consensus four-star prospect and the No. 1 overall player in the state of New York. He initially received scholarship offers from programs like DePaul, St. John’s, Creighton, Mississippi State, and Memphis.

Almost a month after receiving his offer from Penny Hardaway and the Memphis Tigers, he committed to the University of Memphis on November 12, 2022, joining four-star guard Mikey Williams in the Volunteer State. However, on April 24, 2023, Johnson decided to re-open his recruitment and de-commit from the Tigers.

A native of Newark, New Jersey, Johnson would not be the first connection between Louisville and New Jersey. Louisville great Pervis Ellison is currently employed by the New Jersey Scholars program, the team that Mackenzie Mgbako played for.

Louisville could use another true point guard on the roster to take a load off of Skyy Clark when he is not on the floor. A four-star freshman would be perfect for that role because he would not be expected to start and could find his comfortability in the offense, learning under an amazing talent like Skyy Clark.

While I don’t anticipate the staff reaching out to either of these athletes, I think they are both incredible talents who I would love to see come to Louisville.
