The University of Louisville maintained a position in the Top 5 recruiting classes for an extended period of time. A class that includes Dennis Evans, Kaleb Glenn, and Curtis Williams, among others, was bolstered by a late addition in New York’s Ty-Laur Johnson and five-star Trentyn Flowers re-classifying from the 2024 class to 2023.

Well, another high-profile athlete just re-classified from the 2024 class to the 2023 class. It is former Louisville target and North Carolina signee, Elliot Cadeau. Elliot Cadeau is a consensus five-star recruit and the No. 11 overall player in the nation.

Louisville was settled into the No. 5 spot for a good while and even saw an increase up to No.3 at one point. But now, with the addition of Elliot Cadeau, the overall score for North Carolina increased just enough to leapfrog Louisville in the standings.

If you go to 247Sports.com and search for “Louisville 2023 Basketball Commits,” then it’ll say Louisville is No. 7 overall. That is because it also factors in those who have committed to the NBA G-League. And the NBA G-League also recently received a commitment from former Texas signee Ron Holland, who is ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the Class of 2023. But, since none of those players are committed to a college program, then their overall ranking does not affect the order of each university’s recruiting class.

Elliot Cadeau was once on Kenny Payne’s radar but ultimately decided to commit to another ACC school. Now, he is affecting Louisville’s place in the recruiting rankings. North Carolina also received a commitment from Louisville transfer Jae’Lyn Withers, so if these two teams play each other this year, then get your popcorn ready because it will be a battle.

Louisville still boasts a very comparable incoming class to North Carolina and will make some noise this upcoming season. But if you were wondering why the Cardinals were knocked out of the Top 5, it was because of Elliot Cadeau re-classifying.
