The Louisville football program has an impressive number of transfers joining the team in 2023.

Jeff Brohm was named Louisville’s 24th head football coach in early December, and Brohm and staff wasted no time retaining and bringing in talent via high school recruiting and the transfer portal.

It typically takes incoming freshmen a season or two to make a big impact on the field, so I’m focusing on the transfer portal players and what they can bring next season.

Louisville boasts the highest-ranked transfer portal class, according to On3, ranking just ahead of powerhouse programs like USC, LSU, and Florida St.

Here is a more in-depth look at each offensive player Brohm and his staff have added to the 2023 Louisville football team.

One of Jeff Brohm’s earliest decisions as head coach was to address the glaring hole behind center, and just a few weeks after signing on to head the Cards, Brohm brought in his former Purdue passer, Jack Plummer.

Plummer appeared in 21 games in three years for Brohm at Purdue before transferring to Cal last season. In those 20+ games, Plummer threw for 3,404 yards with 26 TDs and 10 picks. Those are middling numbers at best.

But, last year with Cal was his best. He threw for 3,095 yards, 21 touchdowns, and nine interceptions as the Bears’ season-long starter.

Those numbers placed Plummer in the top 30 nationally for passing yards, and it gave him a touchdown to interception ratio above 2.0.

Plummer fits everything the Cards were looking for in the transfer portal. A veteran quarterback with years of experience in the Jeff Brohm offense.

Based on the film, Plummer seems poised in the pocket and features a cannon for a right arm.

I don’t expect mobility to be a huge strength, but he also isn’t the pocket statue some people might expect him to be.

His experience in this offense and veteran leadership will be the biggest strengths he brings to this team, and that’s not an attempt to slight his throwing ability.

He put that on full display during Louisville’s spring game.

Such a beautifully lofted deep ball.

Louisville hasn’t seen a quarterback with this ability to sling it since Lamar Jackson.

Plummer won’t be as dynamic as Jackson, but he’s expected to start every game this year and give Louisville a chance to compete with every team on their schedule this year.
