Louisville football: Breaking down the 2023 transfer portal offensive players

Jimmy Calloway – WR – Tennessee – 3-Star Transfer
Jimmy Calloway was the second of two former four-star wide receiver recruits committed to the cards on the same day as Jadon Thompson.
Jimmy Calloway and Jadon Thompson have seen eerily similar career paths, with Calloway seeing a little less involvement on the field so far.
Calloway was also in the class of 2020 and rated as a consensus top-250 recruit in the class, but three years at Tennessee saw him rarely touching the field.
In those three seasons, Calloway only caught 9 passes for 124 yards & 1 TD.
But honestly, the lack of playing time at Tennessee makes sense when you realize he was stuck behind Biletnikoff winner Jalin Hyatt.
And in the spring game alone, Calloway has already seen an increased role.
Calloway was targeted often in the spring game, and he did a nice job getting open and bringing in his targets, but he also seemed to be trying to do WAY too much.
He did this a few times in the spring game.
Calloway has decent size (6’0 190 lbs.), so I could see him competing for the outside receiver spot, opposite of Jamari Thrash.
Calloway looking for a fresh start makes a ton of sense, and I’m happy to see Brohm taking chances on guys with elite recruiting profiles that haven’t blossomed yet.
This WR room that Brohm has built has incredible talent and solid depth with six different guys easily having the ability to start. I’m not sure who will be the three starters, but if I had to guess I’d go with this:
X – Jamari Thrash – Backup – Chris Bell
Y – Jimmy Calloway – Backup – Jadon Thompson
Slot – Kevin Coleman – Backup – Amari Huggins-Bruce
Regardless, that’s great depth with solid talent at all three spots.
